MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – With two location options each week, the Marquette Farmers Market also offers a list of payment options, including food assistance benefits.
As a reminder, these inlcude Food As Medicine and U.P. Fresh Food access vouchers, which can be handed directly to a vendor as payment. Snap or EBT Bridge cards and Double-Up Food Bucks are also welcome, and can be swiped at the market’s information booth for tokens. These can then be traded and used for certain items, depending on the type of assistance available.
While tokens do not expire, vouchers will expire at the end of September. Market Manager Brian Shier says these extra payment options benefit both sides of the table each week.
“On one hand, it provides more access to food to people who may not have that normal access to fresh local food, and on the other hand we have our farmers benefitting from these sales so they can continue to support themselves,” he said.
