MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Green thumbs and garden lovers took to the streets of Marquette this afternoon.
The 32nd annual Marquette Garden Tour brought visitors to six unique gardens across Marquette and Chocolay Township – from private backyard sanctuaries to a smokehouse biergarten.
One stop, Carie Roberts’ garden, featured beehives, chickens, native wildflowers, an even monarch butterfy chrysalises – a certified wildlife habitat and registered monarch waystation. The self-sufficient garden relies entirely on composting, rainwater collection, and natural cycles… no pesticides ever.
Vice President of the Marquette Beautification and Restoration Committee, Barb Kelly, says gardens are about more than just plants. “Sharing the beauty of your creation with the whole community is a great gift,” says Kelly. “There’s a lot of wellness and happiness, and community building with gardens.”
