MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Silver Creek Thrift received a grant Thursday morning to continue providing for its community food pantry.
Scott Huber of the local Farm Bureau Insurance office nominated the pantry and awarded them with a $1,500 check through its Feeding the Future grant program. The church pantry allows people to shop for what they need, including free canned and boxed items, as well as feminine products and pet food.
The church says the funds will go towards keeping the pantry fully stocked, to continue serving its community.
“Food is a great need, and it’s not getting any cheaper,” said Silver Creek Church Administrative Assistant, Kay Bammert. “Our desire is to help people who are facing that food insecurity, which is really wonderful, but it does increase our costs.”
The pantry is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m, and the third Wednesday of each month from 5-6:30 p.m. Food is also available whenever the Silver Creek Church office is open from Monday through Thursday from 9 to 5. It can be found at 219 Silver Creek Rd.
