MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The World Cup Final brought Marquette’s soccer community together this afternoon with drinks and spirits.
Ore Dock Brewing Company packed the house for a watch party as Spain and the defending champions Argentina faced off for the world’s biggest competition. Hundreds of fans, including players, families, coaches, and supporters, gathered to watch the match on the big screen, adorning Messi jersey’s, playing foosball in the corner, and the kind of energy only the World Cup can bring to a Sunday afternoon in the U.P.
For some fans, like Elliot Kennedy, it was a chance to finally watch the beautiful game with people who love it just as much. “I’ve been into soccer for much of my life and i’ve always kind of watched it alone – there aren’t many people who are as big of fans as I am,” says Kennedy. “It’s pretty cool to get together with a bunch of people who are also big fans of the sport and know what they’re talking about.”
Whether your team wins or loses, today in Marquette, everyone was a fan.
