ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Delta County organizations braved Thursday’s hazy weather to support local students.
The Bay College Foundation held its annual Swing for Scholarships golf outing at the Escanaba Country Club. Now in its 35th year, it has become one of the longest-running golf fundraisers in the entire county.
The money raised is used to help students pursuing their education at Bay College. To date, the Bay College Foundation has funded 460 scholarships.
“That is a huge number,” said Foundation Executive Director Vicki DeGrand. “I actually am one of those 460 scholarships a lot of years ago when I was a Bay College student. It just helps those students get to the finish line when they’re trying to get through college. It’s a big journey for them, and it allows them to step forward in their journey.”
Dozens of local businesses and individuals sponsored this year’s event. DeGrand says the community always shows up when it comes to students in need.
“We are tremendously grateful for all the support,” she said. “We could not do it without the community here, and we’re just so thankful that they’re supportive of Bay College and our students.”
The Swing for Scholarships golf outing featured special giveaways and activities to celebrate three and a half decades of helping students succeed.
