MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Between Independence Day festivities and a major annual event, July is a busy month for Manistique.
Business owners say the summer is already off to a great start. According to Drift Alchemy owner Mandy Fierens, many tourists seemed to come to town earlier in the year than usual.
“It’s been a really good summer so far,” she said. “The energy is contagious.”
This weekend is Manistique’s 37th Folk Fest, a music festival that typically draws about 8,500 people to the downtown. Businesses are expecting a large influx of customers, so they have been hard at work this week getting their shops ready.
“It’s always a little nerve-wracking because you always are like, ‘Oh gosh, did I buy the right stuff? Are people going to like what I have?'” Fierens laughed. “But it is really exciting to have people here. When people come in and react to things, you just feel very validated. We’re just hoping everybody feels welcome and is excited to be here too.”
Folk Fest kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 10, and continues all day Saturday, July 11. To see the full schedule of activities and performances, click here.
