MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Fresh produce, handmade goods, live music, and a strong sense of community are back in downtown Marquette. It’s a chance to get out and enjoy Hump Day, Marquette style.
The Wednesday night farmers market officially opened its 2026 season on Wednesday, bringing dozens of local vendors and shoppers together on Washington Street. The weekly market features local farmers, food producers, artists, and craftspeople from across the region, some for the very first time.
“This is my very first market. Yeah, I have never sold to anybody outside of, like, my family or close friends and some neighbors, but yeah, it was my very first time,” said Sophia Friedstrom, owner of the bakery Bagelheart.
For many vendors, opening night is more than just a chance to sell products. It’s an opportunity to connect directly with the community. For Trevor Case, owner of Case Farms, it’s a chance to serve up his legendary smash burgers.
“Well, it’s all because we care about our animals, from when they’re born on our farm, they live on the grass until the day that they get brought to the butcher. They only have one bad day,” explained Case.
June 10th is a little early for most of the produce. However, shoppers browsed baked goods, homemade jewelry, artwork, and specialty products found only at venues like this.
“Basically, I take them, and I roll them with ink like that, and then I press them onto shirts, jackets, pants, and all sorts of stuff,” said David Pratt, owner of clothing retailer Jebu.
Folks strolled among the vendors, taking in the warm weather, the vibrant downtown atmosphere, and really beautiful music.
“I had some people dancing before, and that always makes my heart very happy when people get really into the music, and I think so far everyone’s loved it. Yeah, said musician Ashlyn Roskowski.
The market will continue every Wednesday evening through August 26, giving shoppers plenty of opportunities to support local vendors and enjoy this summer tradition in downtown Marquette.
