PA Senators McCormick, Fetterman Discuss Gas Prices, Lowering Housing Costs

WASHINGTON, D.C. – According to AAA, gas prices are slowly starting to drop. It’s giving drivers some relief as they hit the roads this summer. We spoke with both of Pennsylvania’s Senators on the cost of gas due to the war with Iran. They shared their plans to help bring other costs down.

According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of gas is down 13 cents from last week. Over the past couple of weeks, prices have slowly continued to go down. The war with Iran has increased prices all around as trade from the Strait of Hormuz has been choked off. The trade disruption has delayed shipping and increased transportation costs.

On average, AAA said gas prices are about more than dollar per gallon than this time last year.

“I just gassed up my jeep yesterday it was 4.20 a gallon at Costco,” said Sen. John Fetterman (D- PA). “That’s of course more than what I would like to pay or anyone would like to pay but I want to remind people now we are not insensitive to that. What’s really behind that is the Iranian conflict.”

Even Senators are feeling the pain at the pumps.

“I really blame Iran,” said Sen. Fetterman. “What’s really at the core is here is should Iran build a nuclear bomb or not. I think we both agree: no, never.”

Fetterman adds that the second the war ends, gas prices will immediately drop down.

Both of Pennsylvania’s Senators agree that costs should come down and they’re working on ways to do that.

“One area is housing, so if you go to Erie or you go anywhere in Pennsylvania, housing prices are up by about 11 percent,” said Sen. Dave McCormick (R- PA). “Senator Fetterman and I have come together and we’ve supported amendments and bill together to deal with housing costs. That bill passed the Banking Committee 24-0. He and I had a couple of amendments in there together it passed the Senate and now we’re gonna go to the House for conference. What we agree on is, we gotta get housing prices down in Erie and across Pennsylvania.”
