21st Annual Cemetery Walk honors WWII Veterans

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – History came to life this evening at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Marquette.

The Marquette Regional History Center held its 21st annual Cemetery Walk, this year being focused on WWII memories.

Dozens gathered to visit eight graves, six of them belonging to veterans of the war and two civilians who served on the home front.
The walk aims to recognize members of the community who sacrificed for their country, honoring the full range of experiences they carried.

The History Center’s Research Librarian Beth Gruber says no two stories from the war were the same: “We are recognizing veterans, some who came home with physical scars, some who came home with mental scars, and one who didn’t come home at all,” says Gruber. “We’re trying to show the wide range of experiences these people had during the war.”

A walk through history, to make sure no one is left behind.
