MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette County Board voted Tuesday night to place two millage proposals before voters on the August ballot.
Board Vice-Chair Bill Nordeen emphasized that the first request is not a new tax, but a renewal of the current Marq-Tran millage that must periodically return to voters for approval.
Commissioners also approved ballot language seeking a 0.05 mill increase for the Marquette County Department of Veterans Affairs.
VA Director Diana Dost said the department is handling a growing number of complex cases and increased demand for assistance. She noted that includes nearly 70 veterans from K.I. Sawyer dealing with health concerns tied to environmental exposure.
Both millage questions are scheduled to appear on the August 4 ballot.
