Grow & Lead hosts non-profit learning event for Give906

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – In the week following Thanksgiving, taking part in GivingTuesday is major way to share generosity.

At Provisions Marquette on Tuesday morning, Grow & Lead hosted its inaugural ‘Pour it Forward’ event in light of Give906, the GivingTuesday program covering the Upper Peninsula.

“It’s a great way to celebrate GivingTuesday and get all the non-profits in the local area together to share their stories,” said Holly Michelin, the director of operations for Grow & Lead.

2025 marks 10 years of Give906. Organizations taking part in the celebration included the Marquette County Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army, and Marquette-Alger Community Action, also welcoming some newer faces looking to expand and educate others.

“I founded a non-profit for homeschool students and their families to foster their love for reading and create community,” said Madelyn Perez, founder of The Readers’ Collective. “I’ve met a lot of other organizations today which is nice, and got to tell people more about this newer non-profit.”

A special announcement was also made at the event, as the Lake Superior Village Youth and Family Center received a $500 check from Northern Michigan University for its community efforts. Program Director, Julia Beard says as a non-profit, funding and volunteer help is always a welcomed opportunity.

“It cuts costs so much when volunteers come in and give time or donations,” she said. “Today’s been very eventful, great for connection and partnerships, and was a very big surprise to get a check.”
