MENOMINEE COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – Unofficial election results are in for Menominee County.
Voters approved a bond proposal for North Central Area Schools, with 589 in favor and 423 against. The district aims to use the $10.3 million bond to remodel buildings, update facilities and equipment, and install new technology. An operating millage proposal by Carney-Nadeau Public Schools did not pass, with 219 residents voting against it and 211 residents voting for it.
The City of Menominee proposed an ordinance amendment to allow no more than nine marijuana retailers within city limits. The proposal passed, with 1,429 voters out of 1,831 in support of it.
Four City Council seats were also on the ballot. In the First Ward, incumbent Michael DeDamos narrowly defeated challenger Donna Larsen, with the candidates earning 179 votes and 177 votes, respectively. In the Second Ward, Windy-Marie Kerkela earned the majority of the votes over Beth Peanosky. Sitting commissioner Josh Jones ran unopposed in the Third Ward and will retain his seat. In the Fourth Ward, Christina Vargo earned 293 votes out of 506, earning the seat over candidate Vincent Baron, who garnered 213 votes.
