Teams combine for three goals in a seven-minute span in the second half

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Junior midfielder Ryley Winrich scored her first goal of the season, although the Michigan Tech soccer team ultimately fell 3-1 to Parkside at Kearly Stadium on Friday night.

“I think in the first half we probably had 70 percent of the possession or more so going into half tied was awesome,” said Tech head coach Melissa Kuhar. “They came out of halftime a little more high-pressed and I don’t think that game was a 3-1 result–we responded when they scored the second. We still fought til the end and I’m proud of the girls implementing what we worked on all week and trying to get more attacking.”

The two teams entered halftime scoreless with Parkside (8-5-2, 8-2-1 GLIAC) accruing nine shots (six on goal) as the Michigan Tech (2-13-1, 2-9-1 GLIAC) registered four shots, with a shot on goal by Sophie Rater.

The second half saw three goals scored in a span of seven minutes, with Parkside breaking through off a corner kick by Emily Mikkelson, headed into the net by Makayla Wesemann in the 55th minute. Mikkelson followed up minutes later with a goal of her own to put the Huskies behind by two goals with over 30 minutes to play in the game.

Three minutes later, Michigan Tech answered with a goal of their own, navigating through midfield with passes from Brooke Green and Allison Millina, setting up the goal by Winrich to make it a 2-1 game in the 62nd minute.

Winrich beat the goalkeeper with a shot from the left foot, reaching the top left corner of the net, with Green credited with her first career assist, as Millina picked up her second assist of the season.

Parkside pulled away with a goal in the 75th minute, proving to be too much for the Huskies to overcome, with the final score being 3-1.

The Rangers finished with 21 shots and 15 on target to go with seven corner kicks. Michigan Tech produced eight shots and two on goal to go with two corners.

Bri Barrows logged 59 minutes in net, making nine saves before Ludesha Reynolds closed the game with three saves in 31 minutes.
