Five different Wildcats score in win over Lakers

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The NMU women’s soccer team faced off against Roosevelt for a Halloween matchup. On a very cold 34-degree day with rain coming from all angles, the Wildcats turned in a decisive 5-1 win.

The Wildcats got goals from Alyse Daavettila and Addison Frantti in the first half, carrying a 2-0 lead into the locker room while outshooting the Lakers 14-6 with five corner kicks to Roosevelt’s none.

Roosevelt scored its only goal of the game early in the second half to cut the lead in half, but three unanswered goals from Hannah Kastamo, Kenna Alexander, and Gretchen Ellis would make the game 5-1. The ‘Cats outshot the Lakers 13-5 in the second half with a four-to-one corner kick advantage.

Northern had possession of the ball 61 percent of the time, and when in possession, the ‘Cats were in the attacking half for 77% percent of that.

How it Happened
The Wildcats opened the scoring just five minutes into the contest. Alexander sent a corner kick into the box that bounced around before landing to Bilbia. Bilbia played a ball to Daavettila, who made no mistake from in close to score her second of the season.

The second goal of the game came at the hands of Frantti with help from Lily Senese and Kastamo. Senese was able to get near the goal and make some defensive moves, including stopping the ball near the goal. Frantti was right behind Lorens and was able to get the ball into the goal.

Roosevelt was able to work some Halloween magic and get a goal a few minutes into the second half of the game from a strong hit off the boot of Daisy Hernandez-Loya.

Northern regained its third goal of the game when Kastamo stole the ball and made a terrific individual effort to score.

A penalty kick from Alexander was able to make the game 4-1.

A fifth goal for Northern was scored by Gretchen Ellis. Ellis was set up for the goal after a pass from Olivia Moreno and Kastamo. Ellis was able to connect the ball into the far corner of the goal to make the score 5-1.

Up Next
The Wildcats stay home to face off against Parkside on November 2, at 11:00 a.m., for senior day.
