ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Delta County’s 47th Circuit Court will admit new evidence in the case against a local man accused of fatally shooting a pregnant woman in 2023.
That July, Tavaris Lee Jackson was arrested for the murder of 22-year-old Harley Corwin. A judge found probable cause on charges of open murder, felony possession of a firearm at the time of the murder, and assault intentionally causing the death of a fetus.
The Attorney General’s Office took over the prosecution of the case in November of 2023. On October 14, 2025, the prosecution requested the admission of evidence regarding accusations of past domestic violence and sexual assault, arguing that it shows Jackson’s “propensity for violence” toward women. Some accusations resulted in charges against Jackson, while others did not.
The defense argued that since there was no evidence of sexual assault in Corwin’s death, many of the accusations are irrelevant to the case. Jackson’s defense attorney also said that some of the accusations—dating as far back as 2006—would cause “unfair prejudice.”
After roughly two hours of examining each accusation, the judge agreed to admit evidence only from certain cases—specifically those involving physical violence against romantic and domestic partners.
Jackson is set to stand trial in March of 2026.
