MSP working to stop online predators

LANSING, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Michigan State Police are sounding the alarm about the dangers children face online.

Their new public awareness effort, called “opening the door,” warns that predators are using social media, messaging apps, and even video games to target kids—sometimes right in their own bedrooms.

The campaign is led by the “Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force,” and features a new educational video about what to do if you suspect your child may be a victim of exploitation or sextortion.

“I can’t stress enough the importance of making sure that we educate our youth and our parents on how we can protect our youth and try to prevent them from being victimized by predators out here that are utilizing the internet and these different platforms,” said MSP Director Col. James F. Grady II.

Grady urges parents to be vigilant and to report suspicious behavior by visiting cybertipline.org or contacting their local police department.
