Escanaba man sentenced to 204 months in prison for crimes against children

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – An Escanaba man has been sentenced to years of imprisonment for crimes against children.

30-year-old Justin Jack Miller was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Gretchen S. Lund after pleading guilty to the production and attempted production of child pornography. Miller was sentenced to 204 months in prison and ordered to serve life on supervised release.

A tip regarding the possible exploitation of children was given to the Michigan State Computer Crimes Unit and forwarded to the Escanaba Department of Public Safety. Detectives determined that while Miller was living in Escanaba in August and September of 2022, he misrepresented himself as a 14-year-old male on social media. According to officials, he attempted to knowingly persuade and entice a minor under the age of 12 to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing photos and videos.

Through the execution of search warrants, law enforcement determined that Miller was conducting these acts from his Escanaba residence. Another search of Miller’s residence led to the discovery of electronic devices containing evidence to support the allegations against him.

The case was investigated by Escanaba Public Safety, the Michigan State Police, and Homeland Security Investigations with assistance from the Valparaiso Police Department of Indiana, the Indiana State Police, the Indiana Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the Wisconsin Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nadia D. Wardrip.

Miller’s sentencing was announced by Acting United States Attorney Tina L. Nommay out of the Northern District of Indiana.
