MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette Children’s Museum, along with UP Teach, held an informational discussion between parents and local medical professionals.

The seminar was a chance for children’s doctors and mental health providers to answer questions about emotional milestones in a child’s development, as well as red flags to watch out for.

The “developmental discussion with docs” focused on mental health, pediatric dentistry, and occupational therapy milestones, like when a child should walk or when fine motor skills are developed.

Dr. Emily DePetro says these topics are important to recognize early, before it’s too late.

“We are tending to see a lot of issues with children with like dental issues, with behavioral issues, with having mobility issues, with learning issues, things like that where they come in and they come in maybe when they’re 10, 11, or 12, when these issues really cropped up when they were three or four and they could have gotten those services, then,” explained DePetro.

The discussion also involved preventative measures parents can take to ensure their kids understand proper dental hygiene and begin sound habits that last a lifetime.
