The Marquette Beautification Committee brought their green thumbs to the Beacon House Wednesday morning. Dozens of volunteers turned out to plant flowers, clean up the grounds, and plant herbs.
The herb garden provides fresh basil, parsley, and many other herbs and spices for use in the Beacon House kitchen.
According to the CEO of the Beacon House, Mary Tavernini-Dowling, guests love to help maintain the herb garden and pick fresh herbs for their own meals. “Many times, it’s the very first time they’ve ever cooked with a fresh herbs,” she said. “Everything they’ve ever used has been dried in in a jar. So, for them to be able to explore and to just feel free to take whatever they like, and to do whatever they wish with it. It’s so fun to see them get a little adventurous.”
The Mariucci Family Beacon House provides out-of-towners facing medical issues, along with their loved ones, a place to stay during medical visits to Marquette.
