ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Delta County Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts celebrated Arbor Day by planting trees in Ludington Park.
Escanaba Public Works employees showed scouts how to dig a hole, measure the dirt, and place the trees in the ground. The group planted two Greenspire Lindens and two red blaze maples.
The scouts earned badges for their work. However, they were most excited about adding some new life to the park.
“People keep on chopping down trees, and we should probably add more trees to the world,” said Brynlee of Scout Troop 5067. “I think it would be helpful for the community.”
“We’re giving back to nature,” said Olivia, a scout in Troop 5236. “We learn to help out our community and help the earth and pick up trash and stuff like that and just be kind.”
As an official Tree City USA community, the City of Escanaba is required to hold a public tree planting every year.
