ST. IGNACE, Mich. (WZMQ) – UPDATE: The bridge reopened at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
ORIGINAL STORY:
The Mackinac Bridge has been temporarily closed once again due to ice conditions.
Around 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced that the bridge was closed, citing falling ice. MDOT released the same notice on Monday, which lasted for approximately three hours.
According to the Mackinac Bridge Authority’s website, the bridge will be reopened when conditions improve. There is no scheduled reopening time.
“The Mackinac Bridge Authority is monitoring the conditions at various points along the structure, and will post any updates here,” a statement on the website reads. “Drivers are encouraged to avoid the bridge area to allow maintenance vehicles to operate and wait for the bridge to reopen before approaching. If you are in the Straits area, please tune to AM 530 and 1610 for updates.”
Anyone who needs to cross the bridge is encouraged to text “MacBridge” to 67283 to receive updates. WZMQ 19 will update this story once the bridge reopens.
