ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – An Escanaba art center and newspaper have teamed up to present student art to the community.
The Bonifas and the Daily Press are hosting the inaugural Art Chronicles contest. Each week, artwork made by students in different grade levels is put on display, both on the Bonifas website and in the paper. The public can support their favorites for $50 per vote.
More than 120 students in kindergarten through twelfth grades submitted original art for the competition. According to Bonifas Executive Director Chelsea Hart, it’s an exciting opportunity for young artists to share their work with an audience.
“This is our first year, so we really didn’t know what to expect and to have this many people be interested and want to support the Bonifas, I think it’s fantastic,” Hart said. “I think at any age level to have your artwork out in the community in that way is just great for everyone.”
The money raised will support programming at the Bonifas Arts Center, as well as the Daily Press’ Newspapers in Education program. Prizes include YMCA passes and Bonifas memberships.
