MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The 2025 Noquemanon Ski Marathon, originally scheduled for January 25, has been canceled due to an insufficient amount of snow.
According to the event website, the snow the area has received so far this season has left organizers “without confidence” in their ability to safely host the marathon, even with modifications. The post says that while more snow has fallen recently, not enough has been accumulated to create a “quality base” for the track. With no “impactful” snow anticipated before January 25, organizers made the difficult decision to call off this year’s marathon.
“The Noquemanon Ski Marathon’s mission is always to host a high-quality one-of-a-kind experience with both safety and enjoyment at the forefront,” the event website reads, continuing later on, “It was important to the Race Committee that should any of these things come into question we would err on the side of caution to ensure the Noquemanon Ski Marathon’s legacy was one of healthy enjoyment of a sport and trail system we love.”
The cancelation includes the 50k, 24k, 12k, 15-mile snowshoe, Adaptive, and the Junior Noque. Organizers say they plan to defer registrations to next year and will provide information on the process soon.
“We would like to encourage skiers to still come and to experience all the things perhaps you haven’t been able to do in the past,” the post says. “Our ski trials are open and a full weekend of skiing is attainable. Many of our sponsors may still have specials for the weekend that you can take advantage of as well.”
Marathon coordinators will now shift their focus to the 2026 event. They say they appreciate the public’s support.
