Marquette celebrates holiday season

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Downtown Marquette lit up Friday evening with a parade, yule market, and tree lighting.

The parade included first responders, sports teams, clubs, and even Santa Claus who stuck around for a while after and helped count down for the tree lighting.

“And Santa’s here, he made it here,” said DDA Business Outreach and Promotions Director Mike Bradford. “He’s sitting with the kids hearing what they want for Christmas, and with live music behind me and with vendors at this new yule market. This whole event happened and I could not be more proud.”

The Yule Market included around 20 vendors selling a variety of holiday items for decorating and celebrating.

“You can get some Christmas classics like Christmas trees, wreathes, there’s a lot of backed goods here,” said Market Manager Brian Shier. “As well as some gift items and art that you could get for presents this year. There’s a lot of great local talent here making great products and we wanted to make sure that there are chances for them to sell those products.”

The evening was filled from top to bottom with holiday cheer.

“December is cold, it’s dark,” said Bradford. “This is one of those great events that’s free and accessible for everyone that gets them out of the house, gets them outside, gets them amongst their community, and it’s just a beautiful thing to see tonight.”

The Yule Market continues on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
