DETROIT, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Huntington Center was packed to welcome former President Barack Obama. Thousands of supporters attended the Detroit rally where speakers focused on voting early just four days before in-person centers will open statewide.
Obama took the stage around 8:30 pm. He talked about Trump’s record, the promise of a Harris Presidency, and the importance of voting for open offices up and down your ballot.
“Whether this election is making you feel excited, or scared, or hopeful, or frustrated, or anything in between, do not sit back and hope for the best,” Obama said. “I know I’m the hope guy, but don’t just hope, get off your couch and vote.”
He was joined by special guests Governor Whitmer, Congresswoman Slotkin, Michigan Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow, and Eminem. The group talked about the stakes of this election and encouraged the crowd not just to vote, but to make sure everybody in their lives voted too.
Tonight’s event continues the accelerating trend of both parties campaigning in Michigan.
“Let me tell you, your vote is going to matter,” Obama said. “Because we know this election is going to be tight.”
Just last week, Trump and Harris stopped at locations around the state to talk with voters. This week, Vance is expected in Waterford, while Gwen Walz has stops scheduled in the Upper Peninsula as both sides continue to fight for Michigan’s 15 electoral votes over the next two weeks.
