Calumet to celebrate inaugural CroFest this weekend

CALUMET, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Village of Calumet is hosting a new cultural celebration honoring the area’s deep Croatian and Slovenian roots.

The inaugural Calumet CroFest is part of the Village’s ongoing 150th Anniversary festivities and marks a major highlight of the Calumet Theatre’s 125th Anniversary season. The event will take place on Saturday, August 9th, in the heart of downtown Calumet.

Festivalgoers can expect live music, Croatian food and drink, traditional dancing, cultural exhibits, and family-friendly activities. The entire day is intended to celebrate the proud heritage and lasting contributions of Croatian immigrants and their descendants to the Copper Country.

CroFest sets the stage for a full weekend of cultural celebration. On Sunday, August 10th, the world-renowned Tamburitzans—America’s longest-running multicultural song and dance company—will perform at the historic Calumet Theatre. Tickets are available now through the Calumet Theatre box office.

CroFest is hosted by the Calumet Theatre and the Village of Calumet, in partnership with local sponsors and cultural organizations, as a tribute to the vibrant immigrant communities that shaped the Keweenaw and continue to enrich it today. Sixth Street from the Calumet Theatre to Schutes, between Oak Street and Elm Street, will be closed to traffic beginning at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8th, and will reopen at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9th.
