ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Delta County Cancer Alliance is partnering with local businesses to support those battling breast cancer.

The inaugural Pink Fest will take place over the first three Thursdays of October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“The Daily Press actually came to me with this idea, and it’s taken on a life of its own,” said Cancer Alliance President Gayle DeShambo. “How great is it that another organization is reaching out to the Delta County Cancer Alliance to initiate and promote such an important service?”

Cat-Man-Do’s will host the first event on October 3, followed by the Rapid River Pub on October 10, and Chenier’s Reef will host the final event on October 17. From 4 to 6 p.m., guests can enjoy specialty pink drinks, play games, and learn from breast cancer educators.

Each event will also includes a “Bras for a Cause” decorating contest. Bras decorated by individuals and organizations will be on display, and Pink Fest participants can vote for their favorites by donating $2 per bra. All proceeds from the fundraiser will help the Delta County Cancer Alliance provide wigs, nutrition and hygiene products, mobility aids, and financial assistance to cancer patients.

“At this time, we have 900 active clients that we are serving,” said DeShambo. “We need to be able to continue to count on our community for continued financial support so we can help our family, friends, and neighbors that are enduring cancer right now.”

A few “Bras for a Cause” are still available to decorate for $50. Click here to view the entry form. For more information, call the Daily Press at (906) 786-2021.

For additional Pink Fest details, follow the Delta County Cancer Alliance on Facebook.
