MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Friday was national POW/MIA recognition day.
Ceremonies were held nationwide and at the DJ Jacobetti Veterans Home in Marquette. Residents and local veterans gathered for a ceremony honoring those imprisoned or unaccounted for as a result of their military. Paying tribute to these soldiers was U.P. Veteran of the Year retired Colonel Howard Seid, who says the search for the missing continues efforts to fulfill the nation’s promise to leave no service members behind.
“Not everybody comes home. Those people that didn’t make it home, whether they were POWs who never made it home, most of them did, luckily, but a lot of them didn’t. and the MIAs obviously didn’t make it home, and some are still not accounted for, Sixty, Seventy, Eighty, years, ago,” said Colonel Seid.
As part of the day of recognition, Americans are asked to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by military men and women who never made it back.
