MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Friday morning, at Marquette’s Forestville trails, the 906 Adventure team kicked off its Marji Gesick races for the 9th year. The Marji Gesick is a weekend of running and bike-riding trail races, starting with the 100-mile run.
This year is record-breaking, with 1,400 participants throughout the six races offered. Each year the race grows either in numbers or by adding races, with the 100-mile run kickstarting the weekend, since it was the original race nine years ago. Through the years the mission of promoting pushing your limits and community has not been lost.
“We describe it this way in our email to racers as a rocky, rooty, gnarly, heavy metal, loud and punch in the face, but it is really an event that has been designed to help people, all people, and any people, find their limits and ultimately a better version of themselves,” said Todd Poquette, 906 Adventure team director.
There are races all tomorrow, Saturday, September 20th, starting with the 100-mile bike race at 7:30 a.m. Forestville Trailhead and many to follow. For race time and places go to the 906 Adventure Team website for the Marji Gesick schedule.
