IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – Starting September 16, the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center begins offering free flu vaccines to eligible Veterans at its drive-through and walk-in clinics. These no-cost flu shots are available at the VA’s medical centers, community-based outpatient clinics, as well as through in-network community retail pharmacies and urgent care locations. The initiative aims to protect Veterans, their families, and communities from complications related to the flu.
The Iron Mountain VA Medical Center will host drive-through clinics in its front parking lot from Monday, September 23, through Friday, October 4, running daily from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Walk-in flu shots will also be available in the primary care waiting room from Monday, October 7 – Friday, October 11, during the same hours. No appointment is necessary to receive the vaccine.
Community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) are also offering flu shots at the following locations and dates:
• Rhinelander CBOC – Monday, September 16, and Tuesday, September 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. CST
• Sault Ste. Marie CBOC – Monday, September 16, and Wednesday, September 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. EST
• Ironwood CBOC – Wednesday, September 18, and Wednesday, September 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. CST
• Menominee CBOC – Thursday, September 19, and Friday, September 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. CST
• Gladstone CBOC – Thursday, September 19, and Friday, September 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. EST
• Hancock CBOC – Monday, September 23, and Tuesday, September 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. EST
• Manistique CBOC – Monday, September 23, and Tuesday, September 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. EST
• Marquette CBOC – Thursday, September 26, and Friday, September 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. EST
Veterans unable to attend these clinics can receive their flu shot during a regularly scheduled appointment with their PACT team provider or at a community provider. Veterans are encouraged to visit www.va.gov/find-locations to find a nearby community pharmacy and confirm the availability of no-cost flu shots.
To qualify for flu shots from community providers, Veterans must be enrolled in VA health care and have received care from a VA provider or a member of the VA’s Community Care Network (CCN) within the last 24 months. For more information, Veterans can contact 800-MyVA411 (800-698-2411).
In addition to flu vaccines, the 2024/25 COVID-19 vaccine (Spikevax) is expected to arrive soon, with more details to be announced when doses are available.
