NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A woman was seriously injured after crashing with a mine truck at the US-41 and Teal Lake Ave. intersection in Negaunee Saturday night.
The Negaunee City Police Department says it happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7. A 57-year-old woman was traveling north on Teal Lake Ave and continued straight through the intersection with US-41, crashing into the driver’s side of a Van Damme mine truck traveling west on US-41.
The woman was taken to UPHS- Marquette for treatment of serious injuries. The 59-year-old driver of the mine truck did not receive any serious injuries.
The crash caused a large fuel spill onto the highway. US-41 was closed for several hours with traffic rerouted while the site was cleaned up.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
Negaunee City Police Department was assisted by the Ishpeming Police Department, Michigan State Police, MSP Accident Reconstruction Investigators, Negaunee City Fire Department, Marquette County Rescue 131, UPHS- Bell EMS, Anttila’s Towing, and Ben’s Towing. EGLE and personnel from Van Damme Trucking also assisted with cleaning up the fuel spill.
