IRON RIVER, Mich. (WZMQ) – Two people from out of state are dead and one seriously injured after a single-vehicle crash north of Iron River Sunday night.
The Iron County Sheriff’s Department says it happened around 11:50 p.m. on Gibbs City Rd. near Iron Lake Rd. Deputies received a call about a crash and found the car overturned in the ditch.
A 72-year-old female passenger from Pennsylvania was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Aspirus Iron River and later airlifted to Aspirus Wausau Hospital with serious injuries.
The 77-year-old male driver from Pennsylvania and a 72-year-old passenger from California were pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation shows the car was traveling north on Gibbs City Rd. when the driver failed to negotiate a curve and drove into the ditch, causing the car to roll. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. All occupants were wearing seatbelts. The crash remains under investigation.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by Iron River Police Department, West Iron County Fire Department, Iron County Search and Rescue, Aspirus EMS, Jacobs Funeral Home Iron River, accident investigators from Michigan State Police, Northland Towing, and Iron County Central Dispatch.
