NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Yesterday the City of Negaunee announced the awardee of its “Community Contributions” grant, which awards $1,500 yearly to non-profits in Negaunee.
This year the recipient of the grant was the Iron Range Hockey Association, which helps provide programming for the Negaunee Ice Arena, and organize local leagues.
City Manager Nate Heffron said the city is happy to help provide recreation opportunities for its community members.
“This is part of the community’s identity,” said Heffron. “Negaunee is a hockey town, so anything that the city can do and other organizations can do to help this organization out to provide better services for their people or spectators, we’re happy to oblige.”
With the grant, Iron Range Hockey Association plans to improve the ice arena concession stand appliances.
