Matt Jennings has served for five years in other capacities
HOUGHTON, MI – Michigan Tech Volleyball Coach Matt Jennings will serve as the chair of the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championships Committee this season.
After serving two years as the Midwest Region Representative on the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championships Committee, Jennings was selected by the committee to serve as its chair starting August 1. This will be his sixth year overall working on NCAA postseason matters.
“It’s an honor to serve our sport in any way I might be able to, and this certainly is a responsibility I take very seriously,” said Jennings. “It’s been wonderful working with so many people who truly care about the student-athlete experience and the sport of volleyball. It’s also been quite rewarding getting to be a part of what goes on behind the scenes of our sport and the operation of the NCAA postseason.”
The committee’s central responsibility is the administration of championship events for the NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball postseason. Jennings will oversee, among other things, the selection, seeding and bracketing of the NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball Championship, including all regional tournaments and the final eight teams at the Championship site. The committee also works on-site alongside NCAA staff during the national championship tournament, held this year in Sioux Falls, SD. Other duties include reporting directly to the Management Council on matters such as budgetary recommendations, facilitating the host site bidding process, as well as working with other NCAA committees on matters regarding women’s volleyball at the division two level.
Jennings has led the Huskies for the past 12 seasons and is the second-winningest coach in program history with 206 victories overall, including 116 conference wins—the most in program history. He has led the Huskies to four NCAA Tournament appearances and a pair of GLIAC Regular Season Titles while being named the GLIAC Coach of the Year in 2017 and 2019.
The Huskies open their 2024 season on September 6 out west at the Classic at Mines hosted by the Colorado School of Mines. Tech returns home the following weekend to host the Up North Tournament on September 13-14 at the SDC Gym.
