MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Wednesday, Marquette’s Art Week held a Public Art Walking Tour around downtown Marquette. This tour shares the public art of Marquette like murals and sculptures and their history.

Organizers share that the history and connection to Marquette that the public art has is what makes it so unique. The Natural mural on the corner of Ohio Street and Third Street was inspired by the natural beauty and nature Marquette offers. As well as the mural on the side of Black Rocks Brewery has a mermaid and sasquatch for Marquette’s mythology with mermaids and sasquatches.

“The tour talked about public art but we also talked about you know Marquette and its uniqueness and its unique architecture, public art its history it all blends and it all connects together,” Tiina Morin, City of Marquette Arts and Culture Manager.

The Marquette Arts and Culture is holding Art Week through Saturday the 29th with events every day. As well as plans for a future official Arts and Cultural building to display the public arts and cultural assets and information about them. For more information go to the Marquette Compass website.
