ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Thursday, Escanaba’s Municipal Beach opened for the season.
The beach is now operational from noon to 7 p.m. seven days a week. During those times, two lifeguards will be stationed at the beach and one lifeguard will be stationed in the beach house. The outdoor beach house shower will remain available for use after operating hours.
With a wheelchair-friendly walkway onto the sand and a recently-purchased Mobi-Chair that allows people of all abilities to enjoy the water, Escanaba Parks and Recreation Director Kim Peterson says the Municipal Beach is more accessible to the community than ever.
“Summer’s officially here, so we encourage and welcome anybody to come down and use the Escanaba Municipal Beach,” she said. “It’s a great area for families to come down. We have a lot of green space, there’s plenty of parking, we do have the restrooms, picnic tables, we have grills in Ludington Park, so definitely come down for the afternoon.”
The kayak launch on Aronson Island is also open for the season. For updates on the beach and other sites around Escanaba, follow the City of Escanaba Recreation Department and Marina Facebook page.
