MARQUETTE, Mich (WZMQ) – The 20th and last Marquette Blues Festival has released the 2024 artist lineup. For the last hurrah, organizers wanted to include some big names and fan favorites.
The majority of the artists have performed at blues festivals before like; Thornetta Davis, Jimmy Nick & Don’t Tell Mama, and, Mac Arnold & Plateful of Blues. Other artists like Altered Five Blues Band, Lil’ Ed & the Blues Imperials and, Tyler Dettloff, who are performing at the festival for the first time.
21 years ago the Marquette area blues society formed to start the festival and keep blues alive. Still today the blues festival as well as the blues society goal is to keep educating the public on blues.
“We wanna educate, promote, and preserve the blues here in the U.P. I mean its, the blues is an elemental art form”, Mark Hamari, Marquette area blues society president.
Blues Festival is from August 30th to September 2nd. Tickets are sold either on the Blues Society webpage or any Northern Michigan University ticket booth. The Blues Society will be holding a performance for the Jimmies at Ore Dock Brewery on June 14th.
Volunteers are still needed for the Blues Festival. Go to Marquette Blues Society to buy tickets, sign up, and learn more about future events.
