THOMPSON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – Troopers from the Michigan State Police Manistique Outpost were dispatched to an fatal ATV crash in Schoolcraft County on Sunday evening.
At approximately 8:15 pm, the troopers responded to a 911 call for the crash on Hemlock Trail in Thompson Township.
Upon arrival, troopers found a 4-Wheeler had overturned after losing control, and ejected both the driver and the passenger, and had then rolled over the driver causing life threatening injuries. Life saving measures were attempted at the scene, however the driver was pronounced dead at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital after being transported there by Manistique EMS.
The driver is a 33-year-old male from Chicago, IL. The passenger, an 11-year-old female who was the niece of the driver, suffered minor injuries. Neither were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
