MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Thursday night was the second and final night of Dancing with Our Stars Marquette County Style, a community favorite fundraiser for the U.P. Hospice Foundation.
The theme for the event this year was “Barbie and Ken Edition,” which had each couple dressing up as a different era of Barbie characters.
The experience gave a lot of the teams a chance to try something new, even unexpected, and they said it is something that they’ll never forget.
“It’s been great,” said Corey Hanycz, one half of Team Hanycz. “It’s something that I never thought I could do, nor wanted to do, and now I’ve learned how to dance and it’s been a really great experience.”
Teams got a second chance to perform in front of a packed house at Forest Roberts Theatre on the campus of Northern Michigan University, and hopefully score some more points with the judges as well.
While some teams may have been feeling a little bit better going into night two, other still had some nerves as it got closer to showtime.
“When I finished yesterday, I was like, ‘I got this,'” said Wendy Hanycz, the other half of Team Hanycz. “But being here again tonight, we have a lot more of our friends and family here tonight, and so now all of the butterflies are coming back, and the nerves. So I’m like, ‘ok, I just have to regroup and get through it,’ but we’re going to nail it.”
“Yeah, we’ll be fine,” added Corey.
Organizers told WZMQ that this was one of the most successful years for the fundraiser. While the total amount of money raised has not been completely calculated yet, they believe over $100,000 has been raised throughout the last few months since the event kicked off.
The team of Mariel Morton and John Cappoferri took home the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy. Team Grossman, Rachael and Dr. Michael, won the Fan Favorite Award. Samantha and Christopher Durley won the Congeniality Award as voted on by the teams.
