MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Ninth Dancing with Our Stars – Marquette County Style – dance fundraiser for the U.P. Hospice Foundation kicked off the first night of competition.
This year’s theme was Barbie and Ken, so each of the eight teams of two represented a different type of Barbie doll and a different dance style.
Dancing With Our Stars event coordinator Lindsay Hemmila said the impact over the nine years the event has been running has been incredible.
“The people in this community are wonderful,” said Hemmila, “And the money that we have raised with this event over the years is really astounding. We’re lucky enough to be able to have raised over $500,000 over the last nine years.”
The dance competition continues Thursday night — same time, same place, at the Forest Roberts Theater — where the judges with officially announce who is going home with the mirror ball trophy.
