High school seniors polish interview skills at Bay College

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – Iron Mountain High School seniors journeyed to Bay College, dressed their best and eager to hone their interview skills in preparation for life after graduation. With their first job interviews looming on the horizon, these seniors understand the importance of being well-prepared.

Under the guidance of Iron Mountain High School Senior Class Advisor and English teacher, Marcus Celello, the students engaged in mock interviews with representatives from a dozen local businesses. For weeks, they had been practicing interview techniques in class, ensuring they were ready for this pivotal moment.

Luke Wolfe, aspiring to enter the construction field, eagerly embraced the opportunity to interview with MJ Electric and B&B Electric. “Pretty much everyone’s going to have a job interview at some point, so it’s good practice,” Wolfe remarked.

Similarly, Lindsay Sorenson, with dreams of a career in dental hygiene and plans to attend Ferris State University this fall, found herself paired with professionals from the VA and Marshfield Medical Center, Dickinson. She rose to the challenge of putting her skills to the test. “I’m with somebody from the V.A., my second interview is with somebody from Marshfield Dickinson. My first interview went very well. I was with somebody from the V.A. and everything went well, we were all confident in there. It was a change in environment, but it went very well,” Sorenson shared.

The event was made possible through the collaboration of various organizations, including the Veterans Administration (VA), Marshfield Clinic, CCI Systems, B&B Electric, MJ Electric, Range Bank, Incredible Bank, Iron Mountain Public Schools – North Elementary Principal Andy Mendina, and the Dickinson County Community Foundation.

Bay College, First National Bank, and the U.P. Construction council also played a crucial role in providing career guidance and support to the graduating seniors during break-out sessions. As the seniors prepare to step into the next chapter of their lives, they’ll carry confidence and skills acquired from this invaluable experience.
