Braumart Theatre prepares for an epic Star Wars celebration for ‘May the 4th’

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – Anticipation is building for the upcoming Star Wars extravaganza at the historic Braumart Theatre. Seth Anderson, the Vice President of the Braumart Theatre board, shared some of the exciting plans.

Tomorrow, the Braumart hosts an all-day Star Wars event called ‘May the 4th,’ featuring two screenings of ‘The Empire Strikes Back’. Anderson highlighted the festivities planned for fans of the beloved franchise.

“May the force’ becomes May the 4th. It’s Star Wars Day now for everybody. So this is the 2nd year that the Braumart will be doing it. We started with the first Star Wars movie last year, so we’re going to keep going into the next one, which is my favorite, The Empire Strikes Back. Every year we figure out a way to play them on the big screen.”

The day’s activities include costume and trivia contests (with prizes), themed drinks like ‘blue milk’, and displays of local Star Wars collectibles. Anderson emphasized the addition of gaming demos by a local business, Bored Bard. “We’re going to have gaming here. So that new business, Bored Bard, that does gaming, they’re going to do gaming demos right here in the lobby,” Anderson explained, adding to the excitement surrounding the event.

With screenings scheduled at 2 PM and 7 PM Central, Anderson encouraged fans to join in the celebration. “Every year we figure out a way to play them on the big screen,” he noted, emphasizing the significance of experiencing the iconic film saga in a communal setting.

Anderson also highlighted the community aspect of the event, stating, “It’s about the community.” He emphasized the diverse range of activities planned, including themed drinks, a food truck (The Curious Pig), and a trivia contest for those not participating in costume contests.

Furthermore, Anderson stressed the importance of the event as a fundraiser for the Braumart Theatre’s renovation efforts. “And everything is going to the Braumart, so this is another one of our major fundraisers that we’ll be making sure we’ve got some stuff to put into the theater and the renovation,” he emphasized.

As excitement mounts for the Star Wars celebration, Anderson expressed admiration for the dedication of fans, particularly in their elaborate costumes. “They’ve got groups that are really professional, making these costumes that look like they’re right out of the movie. It’s pretty eye-popping with the costumes,” he remarked, reflecting on the immersive experience awaiting attendees at the Braumart Theatre.

Imagine never having to pay property taxes again. The proposal would eliminate property taxes statewide, allowing homeowners and businesses to own their land without any ongoing government fees. But with property taxes funding everything from schools to public safety to roads, the big question is—where will that money come from? The plan calls for a bigger slice of state sales tax to be redirected to local governments. To help cover the gap, the petition also shifts 10% of state income, marijuana, alcohol, and tobacco tax revenue to cities and counties. sot Opponents OF THE PLAN worry it could jeopardize local funding. The petition is now gathering signatures for a spot on the 2026 ballot.
