MARQUETTE, Mich, (WZMQ) – Over the winter the Maritime Museum was able to make much-needed repairs on its roof.
Now as it prepares to open for the season on May 14, the museum is adding a second floor to its lighthouse tours.
Its also looking for help fundraising to pay for the roof repairs, and Museum Director Hilary Billman said helping the museum is helping preserve a crucial part of Marquette’s history.
“Our maritime history is Marquette’s history,” said Billman, “so we’re a really important part of the community. We just helped school children, we have free school field trip programs, we get people from all over the United States and locals that come in just to learn about our history. So we are important in keeping that going.”
The Maritime Museum will be open in the afternoon from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting May 14.
