MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A historic bandshell in Marquette is getting revitalized into a space to serve the whole community.
On Friday community stakeholders met with members of the AWH Architecture firm to discuss plans for a new presque isle bandshell.
The old bandshell has been deemed structurally unsafe; a $1,000,000 donation from the Hirvonen Foundation will cover the majority of the new construction costs.
According to the Marquette Director of Community Services the space will offer more than musical and theater performances
“Lots of folks have gotten married out here at the bandshell, there has been a lot of different private booking, for life events people have so we want to try and accommodate as much of that as we can with the new design,” remarked John Swenson, the Marquette Community Services Director.
The designs for the new site will be finalized this fall, construction has not yet been scheduled.
