MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Parents and students could see budget changes for Marquette Area Public Schools during the upcoming academic year.

At the MAPS regular meeting on Monday evening, the new Sentinels logo design was briefly mentioned but has not been decided upon. New agenda items that the board discussed were the HVAC replacement system at Bothwell Middle School, the consideration of purchasing outdoor learning equipment at Sandy Knoll Elementary, and a pay-to-play consideration for the athletic department.

The pay-to-participate was discussed to have a $800 per family cap, but was motioned to reduce. “Motion is to reduce the $800 per family cap to $500 and reduce the per sport activity fee for district-funded sports and activities by 25%,” commented MAPS Board Trustee Jason Zdunek.

Following the regular meeting, the MAPS Board entered a closed session and declined any public comment.
