MARQUETTE, Mich (WZMQ) – Marquette’s farmers market is offering an exclusive new membership to the first 100 people. Tomorrow morning at the Marquette commons at 9 am to noon, the memberships will be open to the first 100 people to come.

This membership cost a minimum donation of $100, $105 if paid with credit/debit card, and provides the members with perks and rewards. As well as all donations go back to the market for funding future improvement’s for the community.

“Helping vendors increase their sales, placemaking — were gonna look at using some of this money to actually have placemaking like picnic tables and benches at the market that people can hang around,” said Brian Shier Farmer’s Market Manager.

At this event they will be educating people on the new membership and what specifically it will offer as well as farmers market merch like shirts, tot bags, and stickers to purchase.

Shier is excited for this upcoming market season and hopes the community is also excited and ready to support our small local businesses.

Imagine never having to pay property taxes again. The proposal would eliminate property taxes statewide, allowing homeowners and businesses to own their land without any ongoing government fees. But with property taxes funding everything from schools to public safety to roads, the big question is—where will that money come from? The plan calls for a bigger slice of state sales tax to be redirected to local governments. To help cover the gap, the petition also shifts 10% of state income, marijuana, alcohol, and tobacco tax revenue to cities and counties. sot Opponents OF THE PLAN worry it could jeopardize local funding. The petition is now gathering signatures for a spot on the 2026 ballot.
