MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – NMU faculty members will be receiving pay increases over the next 2 years.
In a special meeting this morning, the NMU Board of Trustees unanimously voted to approve a AAUP NMU Faculty tentative agreement.
The NMU faculty union has been negotiating with the school for the last 6 weeks, and the faculty voted yesterday to ratify the agreement.
Changes included in the agreement include increasing wages an average of 6.25% for next year and 2.75% in 2026. Salary increases are being determined on a sliding scale based upon current compensation. Faculty members who make less money will receive higher percentage increases.
“For our faculty who are starting out, or for other reasons are at the lower end of the pay scale, this increase will have a tremendous impact, so we really focused on that as we developed this tiered model,” remarked Brock Tessman, the President of NMU.
Tessman says he is very pleased with how the negotiations went. The salary increases will take effect at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year.
