GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) – Marquette community all joined at the U.P North Lodge on Saturday for the annual polar plunge to support the Special Olympics. 130 plungers of all ages signed up to support this cause and jumped in some cold water. The 2024 Polar Plunge was more than a success.
The Polar Plunge committee reached their goal of $25,000 and then some, surpassing more than $26,000. All the money raised at this event goes to the Special Olympics organization. It is to help pay for uniforms and travel, anything so the families themselves do not have to spend money, or hopefully not as much.
The entire event was costume-themed with a parade before everyone jumped. There was a raffle with multiple prizes which also donates to the cause as well as snacks and drinks.
Polar Plunge Organizer Carla White shared just how much this event means to the Special Olympics organization, “The money goes to Special Olympics to pay for the sports, uniforms, travel, anything the athletes need so they don’t have to pay for anything and the family doesn’t and if anyone wants to donate to the cause they can, go to SOMI.org.”
This event is important to multiple people and is an annual favorite for all. As well as raising money that goes to a cause that is close to people’s hearts. The Polar Plunge committee is grateful for all who supported it and can not wait for next year.
