MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Michigan State Police – Manistique Outpost is searching for a missing tortoise.
On Monday, March 11, a Sulcata tortoise was reported missing. The animal weighs about 30 pounds and was last seen on County Road 448 near Smith Lake in Schoolcraft County. It’s unknown which direction the tortoise may have been going.
The Sulcata tortoise is a domesticated pet and a non-native species to the Upper Peninsula. It’s believed to be especially susceptible to the UP’s harsh climate and numerous natural predators.
