NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The fastest race on ice wrapped up an exciting weekend in Negaunee.
The Upper Peninsula Luge Club in Negaunee hosted the annual Midwest Kiwanis Junior Cup Championship on Saturday morning. This championship was in honor of a previous U.P. Luge Club member Fred Anderson.
Eleven riders ages 12 to 25 rode the natural track course to see who was the fastest. The race director says while luge is fun to compete in and watch, it takes a lot of practice.
“Across Europe and even the U.S., one of, like, the top three dangerous natural luge tracks is ours, and that’s just because of the incline, the speed, and the types of turns we have in it,” said race director Elijah Anger.
The track at Lucy Hill is typically open to the public to try out, though a reservation is needed. Click here to learn more.
